Job Summary: Under the direction of a Histologist or Supervisor this position is accountable to produce diagnostic slides in a timely, accurate manner to facilitate diagnosis by Pathologists. The incumbent in this position will support the mission, vision, values and strategic initiatives of MediCorp Health System and must demonstrate a commitment to quality service to patients, physicians, the public and co-workers. Essential Functions & Responsibilities: Accessions specimens into the laboratory information system. Prepares blocks of tissue for slide mounting in order to facilitate diagnosis. Performs histochemical stains under the direction of the Histology Supervisor. Performs daily quality control under the direction of the Histologist or Supervisor. Assists on Bone Marrow procedures. Accurately files slides and blocks and prepares routine reagents in compliance with universal precautions. Processes phone requests and questions in order to provide timely, effective laboratory information services. Performs other functions and duties as assigned and/or required. Qualifications: Requires a high school diploma with documentation of appropriate training for laboratory testing that the individual has been performing prior to April 24, xxxx, and qualifies under CLIA '88 to perform duties as a Histotechnician prior to September xxxx. (Note: After September xxxx, requires education and training equivalent to an Associate Degree in Laboratory Science or 60 semester hours.) Six months to one-year relevant experience HT certification (ASCP) preferred
